Sweetness

She curls her body inward

head down

pushes against the tunnel out of this life

gathers in her last breaths.

All that remains is Sweetness.

We touch it as we stroke her cooling hands,

kiss her petal-thin cheek.

When she goes,

does the Sweetness go with her?

I imagine with her final breath

she blows against the Sweetness

like a dandelion

scatters it on the air and ether.

Later, we will find it

sunshine-yellow in the faded grass.
